September to October, Calligraphy Workshops at Museo Correr and Correr Public Library in Venice
Workshop A September 29/30 – October 1st, 2017
The Art of Handwriting: slow and meditative gestures and rhythms
This course will be dedicated to gesture and rhythm in cursive writing, with pointed instruments: nibs, brushes and any experimental instrument made with metal, wood or sponge purposely made to produce a gestural mark, non retouched, for contemporary works. The teacher, artist calligrapher Monica Dengo, will give a performance at the the beginning of the workshop, initiating students to their work. From the strokes produced, new writings and textures will emerge. We will compare ancient and contemporary manuscripts in order to understand how our perception of writing has changed, in particular the relation between body and writing, legibility and writing, rhythm and expression. Every day each student will produce a book..

The teacher, artist calligrapher Monica Dengo, will give a performance at the the beginning of the workshop, initiating students to their work. From the strokes produced, new writings, alphabets and textures will emerge. Every day each student will produce a finished book.
ps: The course is open to all lovers of hand writing, calligraphists, artists and designers. Beginners may also take part.
