Monica Dengo and Kazuaki Tanahashi's artworks will be exhibited in the precious room of the Sala delle Quattro Porte, along the path of the Pinacoteca del Museo Correr. From 18 November 2023 to 7 January 2024

The calligraphic works of Monica Dengo and Kazuaki Tanahashi will be exhibited in the precious room of the Sala delle Quattro Porte, along the path of the Pinacoteca del Museo Correr. The exhibition, underlines Monica Viero,  director of the Correr Museum Library, will provide an opportunity for an approach to writing by hand as an artistic expression and a vehicle of knowledge and messages capable of creating a dialogue, and building an authentic cultural bridge, between East and West.

Kazuaki Tanahashi is a master calligrapher and a Zen master, his artworks reflect deeply his Buddhist tradition. Kaz, who was trained by O’Sensei, Morihei Ueshiba, in the only class of Aikido in Japan soon after World War II, will exhibit artworks on the theme of 'Forest and Trees'. A peace and environmental worker for decades, Kaz is also the director of 'http://www.aworldwithoutarmies.org, to encourage awareness and interest in the possibility for worldwide demilitarization.

Monica Dengo is an artist with a background in Western calligraphy, her art has been a continuous investigation into the essence of writing by hand and the need for marking that humans have had since the beginning of sapiens-sapiens. According to Semir Zeki, 'we see to gain knowledge of our world', Dengo states that 'creating illegible writing gives me insight into the world in its complexity beyond language'.
She has been engaged in the rediscovery of the art of writing by hand in Italy and collaborated for many years with the Correr Museum Library in the work of promoting the knowledge of calligraphy through courses, organization of exhibitions and themed events.
